FAQ's
1. What kind of music do you play?
Acoustic, folk oriented music with a mountain/bluegrass feel. We include flatpicking and fingerpicking guitar, bluegrass
and old-time banjo, harmonica, mandolin, fiddle, and various rhythmic devices (washboard, jaw harp, spoon, etc.)
interspersed for effect and to demonstrate some of the old ways. We play traditional, old time country, folk, bluegrass,
blues, Irish, and original songs and tunes. The newer term might be roots music. Though we sometimes throw in some
newer songs too, our sound is still just us.
2. What kind of program do you do?
We try to tailor our program to the needs of those hiring us. Of course, we have to do this within the framework of what we
do. We have performed full concerts where we provided an entertaining program of music, stories, jokes, dancing,
audience participation, and some interpretation. We have also played at barbecues, business dinners, political rallies,
etc., where the idea was to provide some musical background/atmosphere by playing mostly instrumentals with
occasional vocals - but without much talking between numbers. Additionally, we have played private and corporate
meetings that asked for background music for dinner and then perform a short program to get everyone’s attention on the
stage to be ready for the speakers. Tell us your needs and we will try to work with you to provide the best program we can
for you.
3. Where have you played before?
We have played at several state parks, music festivals, seasonal festivals, coffeehouses, folk clubs, colleges, restaurants,
folk schools, political rallies, private parties, corporate meetings, civic meetings, fairs, community events, theatrical plays,
and more.
4. Are you willing to travel?
Just as much as time and opportunity will allow. We can be lured into traveling for a good place to perform, a new place to
see, and new people to meet. Especially when it can fit into our schedules and doesn't put us in the hole. Don't be afraid
to ask us just because you are not located nearby. We just might show up, and be happy for the chance to play for you.
5. What do you charge?
We try to maintain a base price that we can work from and hopefully finish a gig without going in the hole. However, our
final price is dependent on many factors and is arrived at by agreement between us and the person hiring us. Some of
those factors including the distance to the venue, the length of time needed to play, what equipment we need to provide,
size of expected audience, type of program, who/what the program is for, and other items that may be provided for us
(such as meals or places to stay).
We have found that most people have a price in mind when we talk with them. If you know about what your budget is,
please let me know. I know it is often the case of you wanting to pay the least you can get by with and us wanting to get the
most we can, but if your budget is something we can work with, we will be glad to. If it is not, then we will do everything we
can to work out a solution that would be agreeable. In the end, it needs to be a profitable situation for us both.

Buck and Nelson, aka David Buchanan and Nelson Thomas, have been
playing music together in some fashion since the mid 1970's. This highly
acclaimed duo from the mountains of North Georgia performs acoustic
roots music on a variety of instruments including guitar, banjo, mandolin,
fiddle, harmonica, and washboard. Their repertoire includes old time
country, bluegrass, blues, British Isles, and original songs and tunes.
Providing an entertaining show of good music sprinkled with humor and
interpretation is their goal. These performing veterans have appeared at
venues including house concerts, coffeehouses, festivals, and concert halls.
They have had a great number of musical influences, though their sound
remains their own. They are happy to carry forward the traditions of music
they have inherited.
